Seven Temples Course

The course tours the old temples of Onomichi collecting shuin stamps and nenju bracelets. Visitors who collect them all win a memento for an experience unique to Onomichi.

2 Jikoji Temple〈Japan Heritage 〉

Jikoji Temple

Jikoji Temple is recognizable for the impressive stone gate leading to the slope within the grounds. The temple houses a painting of the bodhisattva Fugen Enmyo, said to prolong life since medieval Japan and designated a National Treasure.

3 Tenneiji Temple〈Japan Heritage〉

Tenneiji Temple

A landmark in the town renewed for miniature gardens. The three-storied pagoda half-way up Mt. Senkoji was originally a five-storied pagoda. The majestic view of the Onomichi Channel calls to mind the Middle Ages.

Saikokuji Temple

Climb the 108 stone steps, and set your eyes on a calm temple building that looks straight out of an ancient scroll, with the Onomichi Channel flowing below. The spacious grounds and beautiful view are fitting of the place praised as “the best temple in the West.

7 Jodoji Temple〈Japan Heritage〉

Jodoji Temple

Follow the Onomichi Channel into the port, and straight ahead lies this old temple with treasures of the Middle Ages. From the main hall, a wonderful national treasure, to the two-storied multi-treasure pagoda, the entire temple grounds are designated as a national treasure.
