A 1 Onomichi Port Bicycle Rental Terminal
Shimanami Rent-a-Cycle has 10 bicycle rental terminals along the Shimanami Kaido. You can rent and return a bicycle at any of these terminals.

Machinaka Cultural Exchange Center “Bank” (former Onomichi Branch of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation)
〈Japan Heritage Onomichi City〉
This former bank stands on the site along the Onomichi waterway that connected the Sumitomo family to the port city of Onomichi. The building retains the atmosphere of Onomichi, which was the commercial capital of Japan, and is a testament to the prosperity of the city in the modern era.

Onomichi Chamber of Commerce Memorial Hall
(Former Onomichi Chamber of Commerce)

The Onomichi Board of Trade building dates back to the Taisho period (1912–26). The first floor offers an introduction to the history of trade in Onomichi, and the second floor replicates the original assembly hall.

Sumiyoshi Shrine
〈Japan Heritage Kitamae-bune〉
Hirayama Kakuzaemon was appointed magistrate of Onomichi in 1740 and reinforced the Sumiyoshihama area the following year, laying the foundation for a prosperous future. Sumiyoshi Shrine was relocated from Jodoji Temple to Sumiyoshihama at this time to protect the port from misfortune.

Jodoji Temple

Follow the Onomichi Channel into the port, and straight ahead lies this old temple with treasures of the Middle Ages. From the main hall, a wonderful national treasure, to the two-storied multi-treasure pagoda, the entire temple grounds are designated as a national treasure.

Onomichi Historical Museum
(Former Onomichi Bank Main Branch )

Hiroshima Bank began in Onomichi. The port bristled with so many financial institutions, it was called a “bank beach.” Here, the former Onomichi Bank Head Office calls to mind Onomichi as a mercantile center.

Shiratakiyama

It is said that Yoshimitsu Murakami of the Innoshima Murakamis built a temple for Kanzeon Bosatsu (Quan Yin) at the top of the mountain, which also served as a monitoring point for the sea lanes.

Innoshima Suigun Castle

Cultural assets at the Oyamazumi Shrine

The patron gods of the pirates prayed for fortune and safety on the seas. The giant camphor tree here is particularly famous. The Treasure Museum features exhibits of weapons and armor.

Yoshitsugu Murakami tombstone and Myokoji Temple
〈Japan Heritage Murakami Kaizoku〉
Myoko-ji Temple is located on the opposite bank of Amazaki Fort, where Yoshitsugu Murakami, an influential member of the family that supported the Kurushima Murakami clan, served as lord.
The temple includes Yoshitsugu’s tomb and a stone pagoda.

The site of Amasaki Fort

The original fort occupied the entire island here. It was rebuilt as a more modern fort after the Murakami Kaizoku left.

Michika Island

from an archeological site of a village here from the time at a quality and volume normally found in a feudal lord’s household.

The site of Imabari Castle

This was a state of the art sea castle built by Takatora Todo after the Murakami Kaizoku left. The moat was filled with sea water.
