The history of Onomichi is layered throughout the archaeological remains found this port city, which has existed as a miniature garden city since the Middle Ages. In addition to the remains of buildings, revetment walls, and temples, a variety of artifacts, including ceramics such as bowls with flower and bird motifs and wooden tablets, have been excavated.
